Course Description
There is a growing body of research behind hydroxyapatite (HA), a biocompatible, safe, and effective alternative in dental care. This course provides an overview of hydroxyapatite’s role in cavity prevention, tooth sensitivity reduction, and teeth whitening. Attendees will explore the history behind hydroxyapatite and its introduction in oral care products, gain insight into particle size variations and safety considerations, understand its mechanism of action, and its practical use in both clinical and at-home settings.
Course Objectives
- Understand the history behind hydroxyapatite and its introduction in oral care products
- Describe the hydroxyapatite mechanism of action- how it promotes remineralization of enamel and reduces tooth sensitivity.
- Differentiate between different particle sizes: micro vs nano
- Analyze the current evidence regarding the safety characteristics of nanohydroxyapatite
- Review of evidence-based studies on the efficacy of hydroxyapatite in comparison to Fluoride
Course Description
This course provides an introduction to orofacial myofunctional therapy (OMT), covering foundational concepts through clinical application. It explores the relationship between orofacial function, airway health, craniofacial development, TMJD, and sleep-disordered breathing, while helping participants recognize orofacial myofunctional disorders (OMDs) across the lifespan. Emphasis is placed on interdisciplinary collaboration and airway-centered care models. Attendees will gain the confidence to identify dysfunction, determine appropriate referral pathways, and begin integrating myofunctional principles into clinical practice.
Course Objectives
- Define orofacial myofunctional therapy and explain its role within airway-centered and interdisciplinary care models.
- Identify normal versus dysfunctional orofacial structure and function, including tongue posture, breathing patterns, swallowing, and oral rest posture.
- Explain the relationship between orofacial myofunctional disorders and systemic conditions such as sleep-disordered breathing, TMJD, orthodontic relapse, and altered craniofacial growth.
- Recognize signs and symptoms of orofacial myofunctional disorders across infancy, childhood, and adulthood.
- Apply foundational assessment and implementation principles, including screening, referral pathways, and integration into clinical practice.
Course Description
This course offers an evidence‑based overview of remineralization strategies, focusing on the comparative roles of fluoride and hydroxyapatite in preventive dentistry. Participants explore mechanisms of action, clinical efficacy, safety considerations, and public debates surrounding fluoride, while examining current research supporting hydroxyapatite as an alternative. This course equips learners with the knowledge needed to make informed, evidence‑based decisions in modern preventive dentistry.
Course Objectives
- Compare fluoride and hydroxyapatite as remineralization agents, including their mechanisms of action, efficacy, and historical development in oral care products.
- Discuss the fluoride controversy, including safety concerns, public perception, and regulatory positions.
- Evaluate the current scientific evidence supporting hydroxyapatite as a fluoride alternative.
- Apply evidence-based knowledge to clinical decision‑making and patient home‑care recommendations.
