Course Description

There is a growing body of research behind hydroxyapatite (HA), a biocompatible safe and effective alternative to fluoride in dental care. This course provides a comprehensive overview of hydroxyapatite’s role in cavity prevention, tooth sensitivity reduction, and teeth whitening. Participants will explore the history behind hydroxyapatite and its introduction in oral care products, gain insight into particle size variations and safety considerations, understand its mechanism of action and practical use in both clinical and at home settings.

Course Objectives

  1. Understand the history behind hydroxyapatite and its introduction in oral care products
  2. Describe hydroxyapatite mechanism of action- how it promotes remineralization of enamel and reduces tooth sensitivity.
  3. Differentiate between different particle sizes: mico vs nano
  4. Analyze the current evidence regarding the safety characteristics of nanohydroxyapatite
  5. Review of evidence-based studies on the efficacy of hydroxyapatite in comparison to Fluoride
  6. Evaluate the limitations of hydroxyapatite vs limitations of Fluoride
  7. Apply Knowledge in Clinical and homecare settings
